5 years, 4 countries, 3 kids….. a blog about a double Olympian turned Mum….

I used to have my own life. I used to be an Olympic athlete having competed in Athens and Beijing. I used to be completely selfish. Life used to be all about me. People used to ask about me and what I was doing.

Now, I have 3 children. No one asks about my playing days. I am his wife. I am their mother. I’ve lost myself & I know I can’t be the only one.

I’m writing this blog for two reasons: firstly to try and get my Genki (mojo) back. To find a way to come back out of the shadows and start stealing some of the light again. I have no idea how a blog is going to help me with this – but they say writing gives clarity and that’s what I need right now.

Secondly, friends have also suggested that our experiences as a young family moving countries multiple times with kids may provide some funny, horrid and practical tips and information for other Mums in the same position.  You can be the judge of that.

A bit of background:

My husband works with professional rugby teams which has given us the opportunity to work and live in Europe. Since the day we met, the dream was to have, and then to bring up our young kids in a variety of cultures. So in 2012 we left NZ with our two boys (17 months & 3 years old) and moved to Dublin for 18 months. After Ireland the Red Dragon came calling and we moved to Swansea in Wales for 3 years.  Now, after having recently added a baby girl to the brood we moved to France (May, 2017).

Side note: We don’t speak french eeek

This blog will catalogue our journey during this time and share the good, the bad and the ugly of our latest adventures. I’ll also post some other experiences I’ve had while travelling with kids across continents and a bit about my life as an international athlete. Where suitable, I’ll add my top tips at the bottom of each post, which will basically be the lessons I learned by getting it horribly wrong myself!

Please share if you feel like other Mums may benefit from my experiences!

Much love, Jaimee Sarah oxo
